Microsoft used to have Twitch streaming on the dashboard in 2014, but the feature went away when the company got rid of its Snap interface in 2017. For dedicated streamers, the Twitch app on Xbox still supported streaming, but with the new update, all Xbox consoles can start streaming right from the dashboard quickly and easily. Streaming on Twitch will now appear in the Capture and Share tab of the Xbox Guide on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X consoles starting today....

Apple just released the first beta versions of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, and all of them have a new feature called Rapid Security Response. The description of the feature from the macOS Ventura changelog reads, “get important security improvements to your devices even faster. This isn’t a standard software update. These improvements can be applied automatically between normal updates — without a restart.” In other words, it sounds like some security patches will be distributed as background updates, rather than entirely new OS updates for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac....

T-Mobile announced today that all new and existing subscribers with a Magenta Max plan can now access Apple TV+ at no extra cost. Apple TV+ is the movie and TV streaming service from Apple, with Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, CODA, Foundation, and much more. The platform is also slowly expanding its sports content, with some Major League Baseball games and a 10-year deal with Major League Soccer. Magenta Max is T-Mobile’s most expensive wireless plan, at $85 per month for 1 line, $140/month for 2-3 lines, and so on....

Google has been working on dozens of new features for web apps in Chrome over the past few years, making it possible for software like Photoshop to run in a browser. There’s another improvement currently in the works: borderless windows for web apps. The Google Chrome team announced an “intent to prototype” today for “borderless mode for installed desktop web apps,” which would allow web apps installed to a computer to completely control (and change the look of) the title bar....

Chromebooks can be great computers, but options for a video editor have been sparse over the years. Thankfully, Google Photos is about to get an improved movie editor, and it will roll out to Chromebooks first. Long-time Google Photos users might recall that the app just received an advanced video editor last year on Android, which was available on iPhone and iPad before that. Google is now updating the movie editor, which is a different feature that combines videos and photos into a montage or other short movie format, instead of making small edits to one video at a time....

Before Last Tab Close Button Anyone using the newer releases of Firefox will notice that the Close Button has disappeared from the tab if it is the only (or last) one open. Right clicking on the tab will also show that the option to close the tab is grayed out. Very frustrating if this is something that you have been using on a daily basis while browsing. The solution comes in the form of a small executable application requiring the .NET 3.5 framework, and weighing in at about 13mb of memory usage in my testing, which plugs into Explorer and adds full row selection and checkboxes, although the checkboxes are a little odd (more below on that). I’m not sure that I’d keep it running all the time… I’d probably just turn it on whenever I needed to use checkboxes to more easily select a bunch of files, and then turn it off when I was done....

Google started rolling out an updated design for Gmail on the web earlier this year, with Material You-inspired tweaks and a new sidebar. Now Google is ready to bring the fresh look to everyone.
